The volume of mussels farmed and harvested has increased significantly in the last 30 years (~5000 tonnes in the 1980’s to ~115,000 tonnes in 2010)
Of the total number of mussels harvested in New Zealand, the proportion harvested in the Marlborough region is the highest, ranging between 69% and 70% during 2010 to 2012 (Aquaculture NZ Facts). |
